Can the Cavaliers cover as a home underdog vs. the Spurs on Saturday?

Cavs a home underdog vs. Spurs

The Cleveland Cavaliers find themselves in a rare spot of being a home underdog when they host the San Antonio Spurs tonight at 8:30PM ET on ABC.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Spurs are currently listed as the favorite in this game, as San Antonio is getting odds of -2 points against the Cavs. The over/under total for the contest is set at 204.5 points.

The Cavaliers are among the favorites to win the NBA Finals this season and they currently hold the top spot in the Eastern Conference with a 33-12 record, 2.5 games better than anyone else in the conference. They are also currently riding a 3-game win streak, but that doesn’t impress oddsmakers for tonight against the Spurs, who are 39-7 overall.

The Cavaliers find themselves as a home underdog for the first time this season, but its not a title that has suited them well. Since 2014, Cleveland is just 1-5 against the spread when a home underdog. Cleveland’s last two losses came in big-game situations like these, hosting the Bulls and the Warriors. In both games, they were beaten by double figures.

Another factor in this line could be the fact that Cleveland played last night. The Cavs are just 3-4-1 against the spread this season when on no days of rest. Since 2014, the Cavs are 12-15-1 against the spread with no rest. San Antonio is coming into this game on two days of rest. They are 6-2 ATS this season when getting 2 or 3 days off.
