Hornets a mess
Charlotte is coming off a 112-100 loss at home to Orlando last night for a third straight loss and ninth loss in 10 games. The Hornets are 16-34 on the season, 8-18 on the road, 24-26 against the spread and 25-25 with the over/under total.
The Hornets are putting up just 102.9 points per game on offense this year, which ranks last in the NBA. They are shooting 43.4 percent from the field. Defensively, Charlotte is giving up 110.5 points per game while opponents shoot 48.1 percent from the field. PJ Washington is questionable with an ankle injury tonight. He averages 12.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Terry Rozier is leading the team with 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. Devonte’ Graham is adding 17.9 points and 7.6 assists per contest.
Rockets to be short-handed
Houston is coming off a 117-109 win at home over the Pelicans two nights ago. Houston has won five of its last seven coming into tonight’s contest. The Rockets are now 31-18 on the season, 17-7 at home, 23-26 against the spread and 27-22 with the under.
The Rockets are putting up 118.7 points per game this season while shooting 45.3 percent from the field. Defensively, Houston is allowing 114.6 points per game while opponents shoot 45.9 percent from the field. The Rockets are without Clint Capela tonight due to a heel injury while Russell Westbrook is doubtful with a thumb injury. Westbrook is putting up 26.4 points, 8.0 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game. Capela is adding 13.9 points and 13.8 rebounds per contest. James Harden is leading the team with 35.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 7.2 assists per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Charlotte
The Hornets are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven Tuesday games and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games playing on no rest.
Houston
The Rockets are 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games following a win and 1-4 ATS in their last five Tuesday games.
Prediction:
The Hornets have lost three straight on the road by at least 14 points. The Rockets certainly have the potential to put up big points tonight, but they are hard to trust as such a big favorite, especially without Capela and Westbrook. Harden may be more comfortable on his own, but I still am going to take the points. The Hornets are playing back-to-back, but they have actually done pretty well with that. I think they can find a way to compete with a short-handed Rockets team tonight.
