Mavs coming off a loss
Dallas had its five-game win streak come to an end in surprising fashion on Sunday in a 110-106 loss at home to Sacramento. The Mavs are 16-7 on the year, 8-2 away from home, 14-9 against the spread and 15-8 with the over.
The Mavs have one of the top offenses in the NBA this year, averaging 118 points per game while shooting 46.6 percent from the floor. Defensively, Dallas is giving up 108.3 points per game while holding opponents to 44.6 percent shooting. Luka Doncic is having an amazing start to his season, averaging 30 points, 9.8 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game. Kristaps Porzingis is adding 16.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
Pistons picking up steam
Detroit has won four of its last five coming into this game, including a 105-103 buzzer-beater win at New Orleans on Monday night. The Pistons are 10-14 on the season, 3-9 away from home, 10-13-1 against the spread and 13-11 with the over.
The Pistons are putting up just 108.6 points per game on offense this year despite shooting 47 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from the arc. Defensively, Detroit is giving up just 108.3 points per game, while opponents shoot 46.5 percent against them.
Blake Griffin is leading the Pistons this year with 18.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. Andre Drummond is adding 17.5 points and 16.7 rebounds per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Dallas
The Mavericks are 8-1 against the spread in their last nine games as a favorite and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following a loss.
Detroit
The Pistons are 5-14-1 against the spread in their last 20 games as an underdog and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine games following a win.
Prediction:
These two haven’t met this season, but I think the Mavs are the play. Dallas is just so much more explosive on offense behind Doncic. The Pistons aren’t a team that can win a track meet and Doncic will be able to push the pace on offense and keep Detroit from slowing the team down. The Pistons have won four of their last five, but three of the four wins were against losing teams. Detroit hasn’t shown an ability to compete with the big boys, losing 127-103 at home to Milwaukee in their lone loss of this recent stretch. I expect a similar score tonight.
NBA Prediction: Dallas Mavericks -5.5
