Nuggets struggling on road trip
Denver is in the midst of a long road trip right now and the Nuggets have started with losses to the Kings and Lakers before picking up a dominant 129-92 win over the Knicks last night. The Nuggets are 14-5 on the season, 6-2 on the road, 9-9-1 against the spread and 13-6 with the under.
The Nuggets have one of the best defenses in the league this year, allowing just 101.4 points per game while opponents shoot only 42.9 percent from the field and 30.6 percent from the arc against them. Offensively, Denver is averaging 107.3 points per game while shooting 45.1 percent as a team. Nikola Jokic hasn’t been quite as impactful this season. He is averaging 14.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 6.2 assists on the year. Jamal Murray is leading the team with 18.5 points and 4.8 assists per contest.
Celtics staying hot
Boston is coming off a 112-93 over a surging Miami Heat team on Wednesday and the Celtics have won four of their last five games coming into tonight. Boston is 15-5 on the season, 8-0 at home, 12-6-2 against the spread and 12-8 with the under.
The Celtics are also led by their defense, which allows just 103.9 points per game while holding opponents to 43.3 percent shooting. Offensively, Boston is stronger than Denver. The Celts are averaging 110.8 points per game while shooting 44.1 percent as a squad. Kemba Walker has been leading Boston this season with 21.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists per contest. Jayson Tatum is adding 21 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Denver
The Nuggets are just 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five road games, but surprisingly 5-2 ATS in their last seven on no rest.
Boston
The Celtics are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games on 1 day of rest and 19-9 ATS in their last 28 home games against a team with a winning road record.
Prediction:
Denver won the first meeting this season on Nov. 22, 96-92 at home. Boston covered in the loss. The Denver defense held the Celtics in check, but I think Boston will be much better at home today. The Nuggets are playing their third road game in four days, with the first being out in Los Angeles. Denver has to have some tired legs for this game and the Celtics have been able to score well at home. I like Walker and company to try and push the pace against these worn out Nuggets and pick up a comfortable win at home.
NBA Prediction: Boston Celtics -3.5
