Rockets beat up at home
The Houston Rockets are coming off a 120-105 loss at home to the Clippers for a second straight defeat and third straight failed cover. Houston is 39-22 on the season, 18-13 on the road, 29-32 against the spread and 34-27 with the under.
Houston is putting up 118.7 points per game on offense this season while shooting 45.3 percent from the field. Defensively, the Rockets are giving up 114.3 points per game while opponents shoot 46 percent against them. Houston is without Eric Gordon (knee) and Russell Westbrook (rest) tonight. Those two combine for over 40 points per game. James Harden is leading the team with 34.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists per contest.
Hornets on a cover streak
Charlotte is coming off a 114-112 loss at home to Denver, but the Hornets have covered in five straight games right now. Charlotte is now 21-41 on the season, 9-21 at home, 32-30 against the spread and 33-29 with the under.
The Hornets are scoring just 102.1 points per game on offense this season, which ranks last in the league. Charlotte shoots a league-worst 43.2 percent from the field as well. Defensively, the Hornets are giving up 109.5 points per game while opponents shoot 47.5 percent against them. Charlotte is led by Devonte’ Graham, who is averaging 17.8 points and 7.5 assists per game. Terry Rozier is adding 17.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Houston
The Rockets are 11-5 against the spread in their last 16 Saturday games, but just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games as a road favorite.
Charlotte
The Hornets have covered the spread in four straight home games and in five straight as an underdog.
Prediction:
Houston owns a 125-110 win at home over Charlotte back on Feb. 4, but the two teams are headed in different directions right now. The Rockets seem to have finally hit a speed bump with their small lineup and tonight they go without two of their three top scorers. The Hornets have been far more competitive the last two weeks, using defense to keep things close with the likes of the Bucks, Raptors and Nuggets. I think, at home, Charlotte can continue the cover streak. Houston hasn’t been too reliable on the road and this is a big spread for them to cover.
