Rockets take 3-0 lead
The Rockets took a 3-0 series lead on Saturday with a 104-101 win at Utah. Houston has covered the spread in all three games of the series as well. The Rockets are now 56-29 on the season, 23-19 on the road, 43-39-3 against the spread and 43-40-2 with the under.
Houston struggled offensively in Game 3, but still found a way to win. As a team, the Rockets were 33 of 86 from the field and 15 of 45 from the arc. James Harden missed his first 15 shots in the game, but still finished with 22 points, 10 assists and six steals. Clint Capela added 11 points with 14 rebounds while Chris Paul had 18 points with four assists and three steals.
Jazz come up short
Utah couldn’t make the plays down the stretch to get on board in the series, losing their fourth straight overall. The Jazz are 50-35 on the season, 29-13 at home, 44-39-2 against the spread and 44-40-1 with the under.
The Jazz showed an improved defensive effort against Houston in Game 3, but they couldn’t find the offense to win the game. As a team, Utah was just 12 of 41 from the arc and 25 of 38 from the free-throw line. Donovan Mitchell had his best game of the series, putting up 34 points, six rebounds and five assists. However, he still shot just 9 of 27 from the field. Derrick Favors added 13 points off the bench while Rudy Gobert had 10 points with eight rebounds and seven blocks.
NBA Betting Trends
Houston
The Rockets are 9-1-1 against the spread in their last 11 conference games and 7-1 ATS in their last eight following a win.
Utah
The Jazz are just 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 Monday games and 0-5 ATS in their last five conference quarterfinals.
Prediction:
The Rockets have won five straight against Utah, going 4-0-1 against the spread in those five games with two wins and covers in Utah. If the Jazz were going to take a game in this series, it sure seems like Game 3 was it. Houston was awful with its shooting and Harden couldn’t buy a basket for most of the game. The likelihood that he and the Rockets will shoot that poorly again is slim. Utah doesn’t have the offensive firepower to win a shootout, so I think tonight will be a problem again.
NBA Prediction: Houston Rockets -2.5
