Kings fire Mike Malone
SACRAMENTO, CA (TheSpread) – The Sacramento Kings were quick to pull the trigger on their head coach this season, firing Mike Malone just 24 games into the year.
Reports surfaced late Sunday night that Sacramento had made the decision to let Malone go. The Kings had started the season 5-1, but are now 11-13, though they have been without DeMarcus Cousins over recent games. They have lost three straight and eight of their last 10 and are ½ a game out of the eighth spot in the current Western Conference playoffs.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Kings currently have 100/1 odds to win the NBA Finals in 2015. Sacramento started the season with 125/1 odds to win it all. Cleveland is the current favorite to win the NBA title with 3/1 odds.
Malone was in his second season as head coach of the Kings. Sacramento went just 28-54 last season, which was somewhat expected. The 28 wins actually matched their best win total over the last six seasons. The Kings haven’t reached the playoffs since the 2005-06 season. Assistant coach Tyrone Corbin will be the team’s interim coach.
