Thompson’s minutes increase, scores 20 vs. Pelicans
Klay Thompson had 20 points (7-of-15 FGs), four rebounds, one assist and six 3-pointers against the Pelicans on Wednesday. After Thompson returned from a sprained left ankle to play 24 minutes against the Wizards Monday, he was able to play 29 minutes against the Pelicans Wednesday. The 34-year-old shooting guard doesn’t contribute much outside of points and threes, which was the case again Wednesday. With Dallas having an off-day Thursday, Thompson should be available again Friday against the Pistons.
Cunningham continues to carry load for Detroit
Cade Cunningham had 32 points (12-of-22 FGs), five rebounds, nine assists, one steal and one 3-pointer against the Pacers on Wednesday. Cunningham continues to carry a heavy scoring load for the Pistons with Jaden Ivey out with a broken leg. On Wednesday, he dropped 32 points. Cunningham was 12-of-22 from the field, although he didn’t have his three-point shot working as he was just 1-of-5 from behind the arc. The 23-year-old point guard was just one assist away from a double-double. Cunningham’s best efforts weren’t enough against the Pacers in the 14-point loss.
Mavericks vs. Pistons NBA Prediction:
Take Detroit. The Pistons are in the midst of a three-game losing streak but they’re also coming off a five-game road trip. They should be energized playing in front of the home crowd tonight and they face a Dallas team that remains banged-up. Luka Doncic (calf), Dereck Lively (ankle) and Dwight Powell (hip) remain out, while Dante Exum is day-to-day with a wrist injury. He’s questionable tonight. If Cunningham can get a little help tonight, I like the Pistons pulling off the small upset.
