Sunday NBA Opening Odds
(The Spread) -There are 10 games on a full NBA schedule Sunday including three tilts that will be aired on national television.
Since the mega-trade that brought Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups to the Big Apple, the New York Knicks (29-27) have gone 1-1. New York will have a tough task ahead Sunday afternoon as they are slated to face the powerful Miami Heat (43-16) in Florida at 8:00PM EST. The game will be televised on ESPN.
Oddsmakers and online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Miami 8.5-point favorites in the contest, while the over-under has been put at 216. According to the latest trends, New York is 33-21 against the spread this season and Miami is 28-29 ATS. The Knicks are 27-31 on over-unders, while the Heat are 29-29 with over-unders.
The Knicks began the Carmelo Anthony era with a 114-108 victory Wednesday at home over Milwaukee, but then they went to lowly Cleveland on Friday and proceeded to lose 115-109. Miami is 2-1 this past week with home victories over Sacramento and Washington along with a defeat at Chicago sandwiched in between. The Heat are 22-5 in home games, while New York is 13-15 on the road.
Anthony, who banged his elbow against Cleveland but says he’ll play against the Heat, has scored 27 points in each of his first two games as a Knick which is right on par with his season scoring average. LeBron James leads Miami with a 26.2 point per game average and Dwyane Wade is just behind at 25.8. Wade scored 41 points in the win over Washington Friday night.
In other NBA action, the Oklahoma City Thunder host the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers at 2:30PM EST on ABC. The Thunder are 1-point favorites and the over-under is 201. The Dallas Mavericks play at the Toronto Raptors at 6:00PM EST. Dallas is a 7.5-point favorite, while the over-under is listed at 206.5. Portland is home against Atlanta at 10:30PM EST in the second half of the ESPN doubleheader. An overnight line was not available.
