Sunday NBA Opening Odds
(The Spread) – Just one game is on the NBA schedule Sunday night as the Denver Nuggets entertain the Indiana Pacers. Continue reading for opening odds, spreads and totals for January 23, 2011 in the NBA.
It is a lonely NBA schedule Sunday as the Nuggets (24-18) do battle at home with the Pacers (16-24) in the league’s only game. Indiana is fresh off a 97-92 loss Saturday night at Portland, while Denver looked lethargic Friday during a 107-97 home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on national television.
Oddsmakers and online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Denver Nuggets an -8.5 point favorite in the contest, while the over-under is listed at 215.5.
With the New Jersey Nets having nixed their interest in a possible trade for Denver’s Carmelo Anthony earlier in the week, the Nuggets looked disinterested through much of Friday’s loss to the Lakers. It was uncharacteristic of Denver’s recent efforts as it had come into that game having won four of its last five.
According to the latest trends, Indiana is 3-2 against the spread in games versus Denver over the past three seasons. The Nuggets are 19-5 at home this year, while the Pacers sport a 16-24 road mark.
Anthony is leading Denver in scoring at 23.5 points per game, while Chauncey Billups averages 16.0 ppg. Danny Granger carries a 21.5 points per game average for Indiana and Darren Collison complements him at 14.0 ppg.
Indiana has now lost four consecutive games including three on its current road trip. Despite their subpar record, the Pacers are in the ninth slot in the Eastern Conference and just a half-game behind Charlotte for the final playoff spot.
