Friday NBA Opening Odds
(The Spread) -There are 11 NBA games on Friday’s schedule including an overseas contest and a nationally televised game featuring a Miami Heat team that will try to right its ship at the San Antonio Spurs.
Miami (43-18) suffered perhaps its most humiliating loss of the season Thursday night on TNT as it blew a 24-point third quarter lead in what ended as a 99-96 loss to in-state rival Orlando. The Heat will not get any extra time to think about the crushing defeat as they play at NBA-best San Antonio (50-11) Friday night at 9:30PM EST on ESPN.
Oddsmakers and online sports book Sportsbook.com have made San Antonio a 2.5-point favorite, while the over-under is currently at 195.5. According to the latest trends, Miami is 28-30 against the spread this season and San Antonio is 35-24 ATS. The Heat are 29-2 straight up versus teams with losing records, but only 14-16 straight up against squads with winning records.
San Antonio rebounded from an embarrassing 109-93 loss Tuesday at Memphis by downing lowly Cleveland 109-99 on Wednesday. The Spurs played both games without injured point guard Tony Parker (17.1 ppg, 6.6 apg) with backup George Hill (11.3 ppg, 2.4 apg) filling in.
Miami is now just 2-3 since the All-Star break with a two-game losing streak consisting of defeats to New York and the one versus Orlando. LeBron James leads the Heat at 26.3 ppg, 7.5 rpb, and 7.1 apg.
Other NBA action includes the Toronto Raptors and the New Jersey Nets facing off at 3:00PM EST in London. New Jersey is a 2.5-point favorite and the over-under is 201.5. Orlando is a 2-point favorite at home against Chicago at 7:00PM EST on ESPN, while the over-under is set at 187.5. The Los Angeles Lakers are home versus the Charlotte Bobcats at 10:30PM EST. The Lakers are 12.5-point favorites with an over-under of 190.5.
