Celtics now 10/1 to win Title
It’s finally official: Kyrie Irving is a Boston Celtic. Here’s a look at both team’s championship odds.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Celtics are 10/1 to win next year’s NBA championship. Those odds put Boston behind only two teams: The Golden State Warriors, who are 5/11 to repeat as champions, and the Cavs, who are 7/1 after trading Irving to the Celtics.
The Irving trade was completed on August 30. Boston threw in a second-round pick in 2020 to close the deal, which was in limbo due to questions about Isaiah Thomas’ injured hip. The 25-year-old is a four-time All-Star and will become the focal point of Boston’s offense.

Thomas, meanwhile, will join LeBron and Co. in Cleveland. The Cavs don’t want to put a timeline on when Thomas could return to action. Cleveland also accepted Jae Crwoder, Ante Zizic, Brooklyn’s 2018 first-round pick, and Miami’s 2020 second-round pick while dealing Irving. It was quite the haul for the Cavs, but then again they needed to land something substantial for Irving, especially considering they could also lose LeBron (again) in a year.
Continuing with next year’s odds, the Spurs are 15/1 to win next season’s NBA championship, followed by the Rockets and Thunder, who are both 30/1, respectively. The Timberwolves, meanwhile, are 40/1, followed by the Wizards at 50/1 and the 76ers at 60/1. The Bucks are 65/1.
