Memphis got on the board in this series with a 105-94 win over the Spurs on Thursday. The home team has now won and covered the spread in all three games of this series. San Antonio comes into today’s game 63-22 overall, 30-11 on the road and 43-40-2 against the spread. Memphis is 44-41 overall, 25-17 at home and 42-43 against the spread.
In Game 3, the Grizzlies took control with a 31-17 third quarter. After coach David Fizdale complained about the free-throw discrepancy in Game 2, things were a little closer in Game 3. San Antonio still had a 28-20 edge in attempts, but Mike Conley got to the line eight times and Kawhi Leonard had just four attempts. Memphis shot 39-of-77 from the field and 9-of-22 from 3-point land in the win. Three players had at least 20 points. Conley finished with 24 points and eight assists while Zach Randolph had 21 points and eight boards. Leonard had 18 points to lead the Spurs while LaMarcus Aldridge had 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Spurs struggled in Game 3 and coach Gregg Popovich benched some of his starters during the game to try and send a message. That should pay off today in Game 4. Memphis had a pretty good showing in terms of shooting, but the Spurs should pick up the defensive effort tonight. The Spurs aren’t a team that has many back-to-back poor showings. Look for them to bounce back today.
