The Rockets hammered the Spurs in Game 1 on Monday night, 126-99, to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Houston comes into tonight’s Game 2 at 60-28 overall, 27-17 on the road and 46-42 against the spread. San Antonio is 65-24 overall, 34-11 at home and 45-42-2 against the spread.
Houston never game San Antonio much of a chance in Game 1, establishing a 69-39 lead at halftime. The Rockets were filling it up from 3-point land, going 22-of-50 from the arc in the game. San Antonio struggled from the floor, going 31-of-84 as a team and 9-of-29 from 3-point land. James Harden had 20 points and 14 assists for the Rockets while Trevor Ariza added 23 points and Clint Capela had 20 points with 13 rebounds. Kawhi Leonard had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Spurs, but nobody else added more than 11 points.
Could Game 1 have been a fluke? It is possible, as the Spurs clearly have been a good team all season and they have beaten the Rockets multiple times. However, when Houston is on its game offensively, there isn’t much the Spurs can do to stop them. The issue the Spurs are going to run into this series is support for Leonard. He didn’t get any in Game 1 and LaMarcus Aldridge has not been the force many expected him to be in the postseason.
