The Spurs are up 2-0 in the series following a 96-82 win at home in Game 2 on Monday night. San Antonio has now won four straight meetings with the Grizzlies and covered the spread in the two games of this series. The Spurs are now 63-21 overall, 30-10 on the road and 43-39-2 against the spread. Memphis is 43-41 overall, 24-17 at home and 41-43 against the spread.
Following Game 2, Memphis coach David Fizdale went on a rant complaining about the lack of foul calls for his team. In Monday’s game, the Grizzlies attempted just 15 free throws as a team. The Spurs attempted 32 as a team, making 31 of them. Kawhi Leonard alone was 19-for-19 at the line. Leonard finished with 37 points and 11 rebounds to lead San Antonio in the win. Mike Conley led Memphis with 24 points and eight assists.
While Fizdale’s rant may draw a few more calls for his team tonight and give his team a little boost in the early going, the Spurs are just the better team. They are able to get to the line consistently and their defense causes a lot of problems for Memphis. While the Grizz may get a scoring surge at home, it still won’t be enough to get past the Spurs. San Antonio is playing very well right now and it should continue at the road, as they were one of the top road teams in the NBA this season.
