The Spurs took a 2-1 lead in the series with a 103-92 win at Houston in Game 3 on Friday night. The winning team has covered the spread in all three games. San Antonio is now 67-24 overall, 32-12 on the road and 47-42-2 against the spread. Houston is 60-30 overall, 33-12 at home and 46-44 against the spread.
San Antonio finally got the performance from LaMarcus Aldridge it was looking for in Game 3. He had 26 points with seven rebounds to spark the Spurs. Kawhi Leonard had 26 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to lead the team. Houston had another rough night shooting, going just 32-of-88 from the field and 12-of-39 from the arc. James Harden did his part, putting up 43 points, but his teammates couldn’t make shots consistently.
After Game 1, not many saw the Spurs putting on the defensive performances they had the past two games. San Antonio seems to have figured out the best way to defend the Rockets. They know they aren’t likely to win a shootout, so they are slowing the pace and keeping Houston from getting in transition. Leonard and Harden should both have big games, but the key will be the supporting cast. I think the Spurs maintain the momentum they have built and pick up another huge road victory.
