ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said on a recent podcast that the Nets are preparing for the likelihood that they will not have Kyrie Irving this season. Irving still has not received a dose of the vaccine for COVID-19, which means that he cannot play in Nets home games per New York City’s vaccine mandate. Any employee that works at an indoor facility in the city has to have received at least one dose of the vaccine in order to work, hence Irving not being eligible to play. And with this being the case, the Nets made the decision last week to not have Irving with the team for practices or road games. And it sounds as if the franchise is prepared for the possibility that he won’t be with the team at all this season. “The bottom line is, Kyrie Irving is not vaccinated,” Wojnarowski said. “At this point he doesn’t sound as though he is about to get vaccinated to be able to return and play for this Nets team. And the Nets are preparing for the fact that’s he’s not gonna be there.” If a fantasy manager in a deep league wants to take a late-round flier on Irving in hopes that he returns at some point, that would be understandable. Anything earlier would be a bad decision.

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting (2-of-2 3-pointers) with 10 rebounds, two assists, and one steal, but the Bucks fell to the Mavericks 114-103 in preseason action on Friday. Entering Friday, in two preseason games, Giannis was shooting 61.9% from the floor and 50.0% from three on 2.0 attempts per game. On Friday, Giannis missed just two shots and canned both of his three-pointers in the final tune-up before regular season play begins. Antetokounmpo managers will be extremely happy if he carries even a fraction of this efficiency into the regular season, and if he can manage to knock in a few three’s per game as well, he could be in for an absolutely monster fantasy season.
