Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook BetNow.eu, the Lakers are 8-point favorites to beat the Suns. The total, meanwhile, sits at 220.5 points and as of this writing, 69% of the public betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Lakers to cover the point spread.
Phoenix Suns Fantasy Spin
Deandre Ayton (ankle) is questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Lakers. Ayton has missed each of the Suns last four games after injuring his ankle last Saturday; however, it seems he’s heading in the right direction, as he has been upgraded from “out” to questionable. Richaun Holmes (foot) is also listed as questionable for Sunday. If both Ayton and Holmes are sidelined again, Dragan Bender will draw another start. Bender has started four straight for the Suns and is averaging 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists over those four starts.
Los Angeles Lakers Fantasy Spin
LeBron James (groin) will not play on Sunday night against the Suns. Make it 16 straight games for LeBron dating back to Christmas. He is doing some work at practice this week and even went through some contact on Saturday, but there has been no firm target date. There has been no word on him going through full practice, so it’s possible he misses more time. Rajon Rondo will run the offense while Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart could also benefit.
NBA Betting Trends
Phoenix
The Suns are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games but have covered in eight of their last 11 road contests.
Los Angeles
The Lakers are 0-3-1 at the betting window in their last four home games and are 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games playing on two days of rest.
Prediction
Yuck. The banged-up Lakers offer zero value laying eight points and the Suns aren’t trustworthy enough to trust to keep the game tight. This should be a high-scoring game, however, with the over cashing in eight of the previous 11 meetings between these two teams and going 7-3 in the Lakers’ last 10 games versus an opponent with a losing record. The over is also 4-1 in the Suns’ last five games overall, is 4-1 in their last five road games and is 5-1 in their last six games coming off a loss of more than 10 points.
Sunday NBA Prediction: Suns/Lakers over 220.5
