Trail Blazers fall in Carmelo’s debut
Portland lost 115-104 Tuesday night at New Orleans to drop to 5-10 overall and 4-6 on the road. The Trail Blazers were outscored 62-50 in the second half of the defeat. C.J. McCollum led Portland with 22 points on 9-of-22 shooting including 4-of-10 from 3-point distance. He also accounted for five assists, four rebounds and two steals. Hassan Whiteside tallied 14 points and 14 boards. Anfernee Simons contributed 13 points, four dimes and three rebounds. Nassir Little registered 12 points, 11 caroms and two blocked shots off the bench. Kent Bazemore had 11 points, four assists and three boards as a reserve. Carmelo Anthony added 10 points and four rebounds in his team debut after signing a non-guaranteed contract.
Bucks win fifth straight
Milwaukee earned a 135-127 win Wednesday night at Atlanta to move to 11-3 overall and 8-2 on the road. The Bucks trailed by three at halftime before outscoring the Hawks 38-22 in the third quarter to take control. Giannis Antetokounmpo paced Milwaukee with 33 points on 12-of-17 shooting including 1-of-6 from 3-point distance plus 8-of-13 at the free throw line. He also registered 11 rebounds and four assists. Eric Bledsoe had 28 points, seven boards and five dimes. Brook Lopez contributed 12 points, five caroms, two steals and two blocked shots. Donte DiVincenzo tallied 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Wesley Matthews added 10 points, three assists and two boards.

Prediction:
You don’t see it very often where a team on a back-to-back with travel is a 13-point favorite on the second end of it. That puts it into perspective just how much the Blazers are struggling and with Damian Lillard out tonight plus Anthony trying to fit in on the fly, I don’t like their chances here. I think this one could get out of hand early as long as Milwaukee maintains focus. I wouldn’t recommend this often but I’m fine with laying the points tonight on the team in a much better position right now.
