Thunder go from 6/1 to 60/1 to win NBA Title after losing Kevin Durant

OKC’s title odds plummet without Durant

Following the announcement that Kevin Durant will be signing with the Golden State Warriors, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s NBA title odds have plummeted.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Thunder are now 60/1 long shots to win the 2017 NBA Championship following Monday’s news that Durant is headed to the Warriors. Oklahoma City opened with 10/1 odds to win it all before last season’s NBA Finals, but their odds improved to 6/1 immediately after the Cavs beat the Warriors.

But without Durant, the Thunder are now listed among the long shots to win it all next season. And in all actuality, every team outside of the Warriors, Cavs and Spurs are considered long shots by oddsmakers. Golden State is currently favored to win it all at 2/3 odds, while the defending champion Cavs are 7/2 and San Antonio is 12/1. Every other team has odds of 30/1 or worse, including OKC.

With Durant gone, the Thunder will now be centered on Russell Westbrook and Victor Oladipo, who form a fascinating backcourt next season. But beyond that, the Thunder now have to worry about re-signing Westbrook next summer. If they were to lose Durant and Westbrook in back-to-back offseasons, OKC will go from yearly title contenders to an organization in total rebuild mode.
