According to oddsmakers at online sports book Sportsbook.com, the Los Angeles Lakers are +130 on the money line to win the Western Conference, making Kobe Bryant and Co. the favorites out West. Despite owning a league-best 46-10 record, the Spurs are +160 on the money line to represent the West in the 2011 NBA Finals.
If the playoffs were to start today, the Lakers wouldn’t even be the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. That spot belongs to the Dallas Mavericks, who are 40-16 and six games back of the top spot. Yet despite their current playoff ranking, the Mavs are +250 on the money line, which is the third best odds in the Western Conference.
The Lakers are currently the third seed in the West, followed by the Kevin Durant-led Oklahoma City Thunder, who are 35-19 and 10 games back of the Spurs in the conference. The Thunder won seven of their last 10 games before the All-Star break, so they’re a team to watch in the second half. Oddsmakers have set their post-All-Star Game odds at +600.
Rounding out the rest of the top 8 are the Portland Trail Blazers (+2000), the New Orleans Hornets (+2000), the Denver Nuggets (+6000) and the Utah Jazz (+7500). Depending on whether or not they trade Carmelo Anthony by the deadline, the Nuggets’ odds could change dramatically.
The long shots to win the Western Conference are the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns, whom are all +10000 on the money line. The Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings are each +20000 to represent the West in this year’s finals.
