USA Heads to Semi’s After Downing Germany 85-65
Lebron James scored 13 points Wednesday night as Team USA defeated Dirk Nowitski and Team Germany 85-65 to advance to the semi-finals. The victory keeps the USA unbeaten at 7-0 and they remain one of only four unbeaten teams.
Nowitski was really never a factor, especially in the second half where he missed nine of his twelve shot attempts. The USA was able to hold Germany to only 26 second half points on their way to the impressive win.
The U.S. overcame its worst offensive performance of the tournament with one of its best defensive efforts
The Americans were 5-of-20 in the first half, including one miss when Wade appeared to try to bank one in and it missed the rim entirely — and that was while he could still see straight.
Wade went to the bench a few minutes later after taking a shot near the eye from Pascal Roller while going for a loose ball.
The offense needs to get better against Greece and then either Spain or Argentina, whose players watched the game from behind the basket.
The USA will take on European Champion Greece Friday night who is also undefeated at 7-0. Greece beat France 73-56 earlier Wednesday.
Germany (5-2), the bronze medalist in the 2002 World Championship, will face France in a classification-round game on Thursday night and can still finish fifth.
