Public Betting Trends
According to the latest oddsmakers, the Magic are favored at home, as they are getting odds of -10.5 points against the Wizards. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 219.5 points. The public betting currently has 71 percent going on Washington as the road underdog. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NBA Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Wizards winning despite injuries
Washington is coming off back-to-back wins at home against the Nuggets and Celtics despite having a lengthy injury list. The Wizards are 12-24 on the season, 5-14 on the road, 18-17-1 against the spread and 21-14-1 with the over.
The Wizards have been one of the stronger offenses in the league this year, but are also the league’s worst defense. They allow 120.1 points per game while opponents shoot 48.7 percent against them. Offensively, Washington is putting up 115.6 points per game while shooting 46.1 percent as a team. Washington has already been without John Wall this season and currently CJ Miles, Moritz Wagner, Rui Hachimura, Thomas Bryant, David Bertans and Garrison Mathews are all out with injuries and Bradley Beal is questionable with a leg injury. Beal has been out for a week and is leading the team with 27.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game. Isaiah Thomas is adding 13.0 points and 4.3 assists per contest.
Magic trying to get hot
Orlando has won three of its last four games thanks to a 101-89 victory over the Nets at home on Monday night. The Magic are now 17-20 on the season, 12-8 at home, 16-19-2 against the spread and 20-16-1 with the under.
The Magic are one of the league’s top defensive teams, but one of the worst offenses in the league. Orlando is averaging just 103.2 points per game while shooting just 43.2 percent from the field. Defensively, the Magic are giving up 103.8 points per game while holding opponents to 44.9 percent shooting. Nikola Vucevic is leading the team with 18.2 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Evan Fournier is adding 18.8 points and 3.2 assists per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Washington
The Wizards are 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games following a win and 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a cover.
Orlando
The Magic are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games as a favorite and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against a losing team.
Prediction:
Orlando just picked up a 122-101 win at Washington on New Year’s Day. They also had a 7-point win at Washington and a 4-point win at home over the Wizards this season. The Wizards have managed to be competitive despite the injuries lately, but their last road game was a 30-point loss to a bad Pistons squad. The Magic are trying to make a playoff push and it will be their defense that leads the way. 10.5 points is a lot for this poor offense to cover, but I think they will lock up the short-handed Wizards. Similar to last week’s outing, I think the Magic are going to steamroll Washington.
NBA Prediction: Orlando Magic -10.5
