INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman says he’s planning a thorough, objective search for the next coach.
The Cavs are looking for their fifth coach since 2013 after mutually parting ways Thursday with Larry Drew, who pushed through an injury-filled season to guide Cleveland to a 19-63 record after replacing Tyronn Lue in October.
Altman says he’s committed to hiring ”a cultural driver” who can help the team rebuild with a young core of players. Altman says it’s vital to ”make sure that it’s the right fit and we’re the right fit for them too.”
Altman didn’t divulge any potential candidates but says he and his staff will consider NBA assistants – some currently on playoff teams – as well as college coaches.
The Cavs missed the playoffs with the departure of LeBron James this season.
