NEW YORK (AP) -Eddy Curry scored 21 points against his former team, and the New York Knicks snapped their eight-game losing streak with an 85-78 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.
Stephon Marbury shook off the boos from the home fans to add 19 points. Zach Randolph also had a pair of clutch buckets during the closing minutes and finished with 20 points.
Both teams are off to dismal starts. Chicago has overcome its poor early season play in recent years, but New York couldn’t afford to let things get much worse, especially with plenty of speculation already that coach Isiah Thomas could be fired.
Andres Nocioni had 23 points and nine rebounds for the Bulls, who dropped their third straight and fell to 2-9.
Cavaliers 111, Raptors 108
CLEVELAND (AP) – LeBron James scored 37 points as part of his third triple-double of the season to lead Cleveland over Toronto.
James, who scored six points in the final minute to seal the win, had 12 rebounds and 12 assists for the 13th triple-double of his career. The Cavaliers hit nine 3-pointers in the second half, including six in third quarter.
Chris Bosh led Toronto with 41 points, tying his career high.
Celtics 96, Bobcats 95
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Ray Allen made a 3-pointer at the buzzer after Eddie House knocked away Jason Richardson’s inbounds pass with 4.7 seconds left to give Boston its third straight win.
Allen had missed 11 of his previous 14 shots in a flat performance for the Celtics, yet hit nothing but net on the jumper from the left wing, setting off a wild celebration for the Celtics, who improved to 11-1.
Paul Pierce scored 23 points and Kevin Garnett had 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Celtics, who had gone more than 3 minutes without scoring until Allen’s bucket.
Richardson had 25 points and Raymond Felton had 18 points and nine assists for the Bobcats, who lost their third straight game.
Magic 120, Heat 99
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – Hedo Turkoglu scored 27 points, Rashard Lewis added 19 and Orlando handed Magic coach Stan Van Gundy’s former team its Eastern Conference-leading 10th loss.
Dwyane Wade had 32 points, Shaquille O’Neal added 20, and Ricky Davis had 23 points and seven assists, but Miami trailed for all but the opening minutes.
Dwight Howard had 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Keyon Dooling scored 17 points in 22 minutes.
Golden State 100, Philadelphia 98, OT
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Kelenna Azubuike made a 3-pointer from the left corner with 6.1 seconds left in overtime and Golden State finished a five-game road trip with a winning record for the first time since December 1980.
Monta Ellis equaled his career high with 31, while Baron Davis came on strong in overtime and scored 22 for Golden State, which has won five of six games since an 0-6 start. Andris Biedrins grabbed 14 rebounds for the Warriors.
Golden State was 4-1 on its road trip.
Iguodala led the 76ers with 26 points, Andre Miller added 23, and Williams scored 18 off the bench.
Grizzlies 124, Wizards 118
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Juan Carlos Navarro scored 28 points, Rudy Gay added 27, and the Memphis overcame Antawn Jamison’s 41 points and 11 rebounds to beat Washington.
Mike Miller and Kyle Lowry each had 17 points for Memphis with 15 of Lowry’s points coming in the second half. Caron Butler had 27 points and seven rebounds for the Wizards.
Hawks 94, Timberwolves 87
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Josh Smith scored 10 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter to help Atlanta erase a 21-point deficit.
Joe Johnson scored 25 points, and Tyronn Lue had seven of his 13 in the fourth for Atlanta, which was winless in their previous 17 road games before it overcame a 10-point, fourth-quarter deficit to win at Miami on Wednesday night.
Al Jefferson had 23 points and 16 rebounds, and Marko Jaric added 20 and six assists for the Timberwolves, an NBA-worst 1-10.
Rockets 109, Nuggets 81
HOUSTON (AP) – Tracy McGrady scored 35 points and Yao Ming had 22 points and 13 rebounds as Houston snapped a six-game losing streak.
Shane Battier grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds and Houston outrebounded Denver 57-38 to overcome their 17 percent shooting from 3-point range (3-for-18).
Allen Iverson had 18 points and Carmelo Anthony added 17 for the Nuggets, who mustered a season-low point total, shot 35 percent (28 of 79) and committed 18 turnovers. To make matters worse, Kenyon Martin strained his right knee late in the first half and did not return. The team said he would be evaluated in Denver on Sunday.
Bucks 97, Mavericks 95
MILWAUKE (AP) – Michael Redd scored 27 points and made five late free throws to lead Milwaukee to its fifth straight win.
Andrew Bogut had 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Mo Williams added 19 points as the Bucks improved to 6-0 at home.
Josh Howard had 24 points and 11 rebounds for Dallas who lost their second consecutive game. Dirk Nowitzki added 20 points and Jason Terry, who had one point in the first half, finished with 21.
Hornets 98, Clippers 89
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Peja Stojakovic scored nine of his 22 points in the fourth quarter, David West added 18 and New Orleans snapped a three-game losing streak.
Chris Paul had 10 assists and 11 points, including a clutch 10-footer with 41 seconds left to help thwart a Clippers rally.
Cuttino Mobley led Los Angeles with 20 points and Chris Kaman had 18-points and 12 rebounds. Tim Thomas had 13 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. The Clippers committed 15 turnovers.
