GOING?
Stephon Marbury has left the New York Knicks and there is no word on when, or even if, he might rejoin the team. Marbury was absent from the team’s morning shootaround, and failed to show up when the Knicks played the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night. Marbury’s absence followed a story in Tuesday’s New York Daily News indicating the Knicks were trying to reduce his role or get rid of him. A trade seems unlikely, because Marbury is scheduled to earn $42 million over the next two seasons. The Knicks lost to Phoenix 113-102.
CELTIC PRIDE
Paul Pierce scored 31 points, and Boston beat Indiana 101-86 on Tuesday night to remain unbeaten. Boston (6-0) matched its best start since the 1987-88 season. Boston still is chasing its best start, 14 straight wins to begin the 1957-58 season.
WINLESS IN SEATTLE
Rashard Lewis scored 22 points against his former team Tuesday night, and Orlando beat Seattle 103-76, handing the SuperSonics their league-worst eighth straight loss to start the season. The Sonics have not won since April 7 of last season, when Lewis was still on their side and went for 35 points against the Utah Jazz. It is the worst start in franchise history, surpassing an 0-6 streak in 1969-70.
INJURED
Bucks forward Michael Ruffin will miss four to six weeks with a broken left wrist. Ruffin was injured in the second half of Sunday’s 113-88 loss in San Antonio when he tried to block a shot.
SNAPPED
LaMarcus Aldridge had 22 points and 10 rebounds and Portland beat the Pistons 102-94, snapping a four-game losing streak at the Rose Garden against Detroit. The last Trail Blazers’ win over the Pistons at home in March 2003. The Blazers have not won at home against Detroit since former Blazers forward Rasheed Wallace has been with the Pistons.
STRONG IN DEFEAT
Tracy McGrady scored 41 points in Houston’s 105-99 loss to Memphis on Tuesday night. … Andre Iguodala had 15 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in Philadelphia’s 99-84 loss to Dallas.
SPEAKING
“He passed up three shots early in the game. I had to remind him he’s the Microwave, not the Toaster.”-Dallas coach Avery Johnson on starting Jason Terry in the second half after Terry passed up some open first-half shots in the Mavericks’ 99-84 win over Philadelphia. Terry responded by scoring 12 of his 25 points in the third quarter.
