The Washington Wizards retired Earl “The Pearl” Monroe’s No. 10 jersey Saturday night at halftime of their 101-97 win over Toronto. Monroe was drafted in 1967 by the Baltimore Bullets – the Wizards’ predecessor – and played for the franchise until 1971. Monroe’s jersey is fourth to be retired by the franchise. It took its place next to Wes Unseld’s No. 41, Elvin Hayes’ No. 11 and Gus Johnson’s No. 25.

New Orleans avoided its 22nd straight loss to Dallas on Saturday night, beating the Mavericks 112-108 in overtime. The Streak dated back to November 1999. … Vince Carter came off the bench to score 24 points and the New Jersey Nets ended a five-game home losing streak with a 94-92 overtime victory over Philadelphia.

Minnesota was held to its lowest point total of the season and have dropped eight of nine after a 109-80 loss to Memphis on Saturday night. … Chicago beat Charlotte 111-95 to hand the Bobcats their fifth straight loss.

Tracey McGrady scored 28 of his 40 points in the second half, but Houston lost to Sacramento 107-99 on Saturday night. It was the 44th game McGrady has scored 40 or more points, including the third time this season.

Ron Artest and Kevin Martin each scored 26 points, and Sacramento spoiled former coach Rick Adelman’s return to Arco Arena by beating Houston 107-99. Adelman, who was often criticized during the last of his eight seasons as the Kings coach, made his first visit back to Arco Arena and received a standing ovation during pregame introductions.
