Chicago defeated Golden State 114-108 on Thursday to win in Oakland for the first time in nine tries since Jan. 30, 1998, during Michael Jordan’s final season with the club. The Bulls played the game without Ben Gordon, Luol Deng and Kirk Hinrich, three of their top four scorers.

Philadelphia downed Miami 101-84 on Thursday, handing the Heat (9-39) their sixth straight loss and 21st in their last 22 games. It was the second losing effort in two days for Miami and came just over 24 hours after the Heat traded Shaquille O’Neal to Phoenix.

Houston guard Steve Francis will have season-ending surgery to repair a torn quadriceps tendon in his right knee, but expects to play again next season. Francis hasn’t played since Dec. 15 and has appeared in only 10 games this season, averaging 5.5 points and three assists. The team said Francis will have surgery Feb. 25.
WAIVED
Chicago waived forward Viktor Khryapa on Thursday and reached a settlement on the remainder of his contract. The 6-foot-9 Khryapa averaged 3.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in nine games this season. He played 33 games for the Bulls last season.
