HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Cleveland beat Detroit 98-82 on Saturday night, to advance to the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. It is the first trip to the Finals in the Cavaliers 37 year history. Cleveland hasn’t had a championship team in any major sport since 1964. The Cavaliers are only third team to come back from an 0-2 deficit in a conference finals, joining the 1971 Baltimore Bullets and 1993 Chicago Bulls.
KING OF CLEVELAND
Cleveland’s Daniel Gibson scored a career-high 31 points including 19 in the fourth quarter to give the Cavaliers a 98-82 win in Game 6 against the Detroit Pistons. The slender second-round pick from Texas, made three 3-pointers in the first 2:16 of the fourth, and finished 5-for-5 from behind the arc.
EJECTED
Detroit Pistons forward Rasheed Wallace was ejected from Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night after getting called for two technical fouls.
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES
The Eastern Conference finals took a bizarre turn when a shot-clock malfunction created a 21-minute delay between the first and second quarters Saturday night. The Cavaliers had a similar problem with their shot clocks at one home game during the regular season.
STRONG IN DEFEAT
Richard Hamilton scored 29 points to lead Detroit but the Pistons lost to Cleveland 98-82 on Saturday night.
RISING SUN
Steve Kerr confirmed on Saturday that he has accepted the job of general manager of the Phoenix Suns. Kerr made the comment on TNT during the telecast of Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals in Cleveland. Kerr has been an of the network’s NBA telecasts for four years. Kerr is a former University of Arizona star who was part of five championship teams – in Chicago and San Antonio – in 15 NBA seasons.
