EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -Guard Vince Carter left the New Jersey Nets’ game with the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night for about four minutes in the second quarter after taking an elbow to the face.
Carter and Malik Allen had double-teamed Brandon Bass in the frontcourt when the Mavericks forward raised his arms and caught Carter on the right side of his face.
The Nets’ second-leading scorer (20.6 points) immediately fell to floor and covered his face with his hands.
Play was not stopped until the Mavericks scored a basket at the other end.
Carter lay on the court for a couple of minutes before being helped to the bench. He went to the locker room with trainer Tim Walsh and eventually returned to the game.
