INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -The trial of Indiana Pacers players Jamaal Tinsley and Marquis Daniels on charges stemming from a bar fight has been delayed a third time.
The trial was to begin Jan. 14, but was rescheduled for March 17 because a new prosecutor is handling the case, spokesman Matthew Symons of the Marion County prosecutor’s office said Friday. The defense asked for the earlier postponements in September and December.
Tinsley was indicted on a felony charge of intimidation and misdemeanor counts of battery, disorderly conduct and intimidation in connection with a fight last February at the 8 Seconds Saloon. Daniels is charged with battery and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors.
According to a police report, the manager of the bar said Tinsley threatened to kill him during the fight. The confrontation with the players followed another fight involving a person who employees thought was trying to steal coats from the coat check area, police said.
Pacers players yelled obscenities at staff members, the police report said.
At some point, Tinsley punched bar manager Mark Nicholson on the left side of his head, knocking him to his knees, the report said. Nicholson said Daniels and another man began striking him in the face. Other witnesses then separated those involved in the fight.
