Warriors’ Curry out vs. 76ers due to flu

 

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Stephen Curry’s return to the Golden State Warriors has been put on hold after the two-time MVP was declared out Saturday night gainst the Philadelphia 76ers because of the flu.
Curry was diagnosed with Influenza A by a viral testing Saturday morning. The Warriors termed it a season flu and said that Curry has begun treatment. The team also said that Curry is not at specific risk for COVID-19 or coronavirus.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr said he spent much of Friday with Curry, who didn’t show any symptoms until Saturday morning.
“I know his young son was sick for a couple days so probably got it from his son,” Kerr said. “Our doctors checked him out and it is the basic flu.
Curry’s illness came two days after he returned to the Warriors after sitting out 58 games with a broken left hand that required surgery.
Kerr noted that he and the organization are trying to stay prepared in case of a coronavirus outbreak. The NBA has told teams to prepare to potentially play without fans as part of safety concerns.
“Like everybody else, I’m reading about it. It’s something that our players and I have all talked about,” Kerr said. “We had our team doctor come in and address it a few days ago. I’m no expert. I’m like everybody else, just trying to learn about it. We’re doing our job to come in and get ready for the game and play the game. I think the league will tell u what to do next.”
He had 23 points and seven assists in 27 minutes in Golden State’s 121-113 loss to Toronto on Thursday.
The Warriors will also be without Draymond Green (left knee) and Kevon Looney (hip soreness). Looney has not played since Feb. 29 and will be re-evaluated in three weeks.
