WASHINGTON (AP) -The Washington Wizards hired former Charlotte Bobcats president Ed Tapscott as director of player development on Wednesday.
The team also hired Dave Hopla as an assistant coach for player development.
“Ed and Dave have an extensive coaching background and have proven to be very successful in working with and developing players throughout their careers,” Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said.
In addition to helping the coaching staff with game preparation, Tapscott will implement programs for players that focus on life skills, counseling, education and career transition.
Tapscott was Charlotte’s president and chief operation officer from 2003-06. Other jobs included a stint as interim president and general manager of the New York Knicks.
Hopla was a basketball development consultant with the Toronto Raptors last season.
