Memphis reached the third round of the tournament by beating St. Mary’s, 54-52, on Thursday. The Tigers led comfortably most of the game, but had to survive a late scare, as the Gaels had a potential game-winning shot go long at the buzzer. The Tigers played solid on defense in the win, holding St. Mary’s to 19 of 58 shooting. The Tigers also had 12 blocks in the game, with eight coming from D.J. Stephens. Memphis is 31-4 on the season, 5-2 on a neutral floor and 16-16 against the spread.
