AAC Tournament Predictions: Will Cincinnati win, or will Wichita State?

AAC Tournament Predictions

The American Athletic Conference Tournament should be the most competitive one yet. Here’s our prediction for who will win this weekend.

The AAC Tournament is a 12-team, single-elimination tournament with the bottom eight seeds opening play on Thursday with four games and the top four seeds automatically on to the quarterfinals on Friday. The tournament takes place from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

According to oddsmakers at YouWager, 14001 Cincinnati is favored to win it all, as the Bearcats are getting odds of +175 to prevail. Other short odds to win are 14002 Wichita State (+300) and 14003 Houston (+500).

Bet on the AAC Conference Tournament

Cincinnati holds the top seed in the tournament this week with a 16-2 conference record. The Bearcats are 27-4 overall. Cincy finished runner-up in this tournament last year, losing to SMU.

Wichita State is the second seed in the bracket after a 14-4 record in conference play. The Shockers are 24-6 overall. Wichita State is playing in this tournament for the first time.

Houston is the third seed this week after going 14-4 in conference play as well. The Cougars are 24-6 overall. Houston has never won this tournament.

I like Wichita State this week. Though this is the Shockers’ first appearance in this event, they have a lot of history winning conference tournaments from their time in the Missouri Valley Conference. At its prime the MVC was built similar to the AAC. The Shockers have also picked up wins over Cincinnati and Houston this season, its toughest competition in the tournament. Confidence won’t be lacking in this team while Cincinnati is a team a little too reliant on its defense for me to trust in a tournament setting. It’s tough to maintain high-intensity defense for three games in three days.
