Wednesday’s Big East Predictions

The 2018 Big East Tournament begins play on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 with a pair of first-round games. Here’s our predictions for the two games on the slate.

609 St. John’s -4.5 vs. 610 Georgetown, 7PM ET (FS1)

According to oddsmakers at YouWager, ninth-seeded St. John’s is the favorite in this 8 vs. 9 matchup. The Red Storm have the home-court edge in the Big East Tournament and it has led to some big wins this year despite a disappointing season overall. However, the Hoyas did win and cover in both matchups this season, though both were competitive. I think that is the bigger picture. While St. John’s may win tonight, these two are pretty evenly matched. Given the Hoyas have won the previous two meetings and both were close, I feel good taking the points here. St. John’s comes in losing three of their last four and even their four-game win streak features three wins by four points or less. BIG EAST PREDICTIONS: 610 GEORGETOWN +4.5

611 DePaul +6 vs. 612 Marquette, 9:30PM ET (FS1)

Oddsmakers have seventh-seeded Marquette as a comfortable favorite tonight, giving the Eagles a 6-point spread. These two split the season series, with the home team winning and covering in both instances. Marquette has been a streaky team, beating some strong opponents while having some letdowns against others. However, the Golden Eagles come in having won and covered in four of their last five while DePaul has lost five of its last six. The Blue Demons have also failed to cover in their last two away from home. Marquette actually averages more offense on the road and I think it will be able to set a scoring pace that DePaul won’t be able to handle. I like the Eagles to cover here. BIG EAST PREDICTIONS: 612 MARQUETTE -6
