Broncos get past Rebels
Boise State picked up a 67-61 victory over UNLV Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Tournament to improve to 20-11 on the season. The fifth-seeded Broncos led 29-24 at halftime en route to the triumph. R.J. Williams paced Boise State with 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting plus 9-of-13 at the free throw line. He also racked up 15 rebounds and three assists. Justinian Jessup tallied 19 points and four boards. Derrick Alston added 14 points, 12 caroms and two assists.
Aztecs rally in second half
San Diego State advanced in the Mountain West Tournament Thursday afternoon with a 73-60 victory over Air Force. The Aztecs (29-1) outscored the Falcons 40-23 in the second half after trailing much of the first half. Jordan Schakel led SDSU with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting, all from 3-point range, plus 2-of-2 at the charity stripe. He also pulled down four rebounds. Yanni Wetzell accounted for 16 points, three boards and two blocked shots. Malachi Flynn registered 16 points, eight assists, seven caroms and three steals. Boise State
The Broncos are 5-1 ATS in their last six neutral site games. Boise State is 9-3 ATS in its last 12 games overall.
San Diego State
The Aztecs are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 neutral site games. The favorite is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings.
Prediction:
The Aztecs toyed with Air Force for a half before laying down the law in the second half. Against a team in Boise State that SDSU has beaten 83-65 at home and 72-55 on the road this season, I don’t see San Diego State messing around here. The Aztecs could not finish the job last year in the conference tournament so don’t expect them to take any opponent lightly as they try to make their case to be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
