Canisius vs. Monmouth Predictions: One Small School to Bet Now 2/16/18

One Small Hoops School to Bet Now

The college basketball slate is small on Friday night but that doesn’t mean there isn’t value to be found for bettors. Here’s one small school that should be on your radar tonight.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book YouWager, Canisius is a 2.5-point road favorite to beat Monmouth tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET. The Golden Griffins opened as 1-point road favorites but a bevy of early-betting activity on Canisius forced oddsmakers to adjust the line.

Bet Tonight’s College Hoops Action

As of Friday morning at 11:30 a.m. ET, the Golden Griffins were receiving 83% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks. Normally I would fade the public but how many “Joes” are waking up early and getting a jumpstart on handicapping Canisius versus Monmouth? Not many, I presume. Thus, it’s a good bet to assume that the majority of the money coming in on tonight’s game is from the professionals.

There’s a lot to like about Canisius even without taking in the above assumption. For starters, the favorite in this series has covered the spread in five of the last seven meetings. The Golden Griffins have also been on a nice ATS run of late, posting a 10-4-1 record at the betting window in their last 15 games (all of which have come in conference play).

Canisius is also a perfect 6-0 against the spread in its last six road games coming off three or more consecutive home contests and have covered in 16 of their last 21 road games when facing an opponent with a winning record at home. Finally, the Golden Griffins have posted an ATS record of 9-3-1 in their last 13 games coming off a win.

Conversely, the Hawks are just 2-6 against the number in their last eight games after posting an ATS win. They’re just 1-4 at the betting window in their last five games when facing a team with a winning record, too.

So shop around, locate the Golden Griffins at -2 and snatch Canisius at a low price.
