CBB Predictions: Boston College Eagles vs. Duke Blue Devils 1/7/17

Boston College vs. Duke Prediction

No. 8 Duke begins life without Coach K today when the Blue Devils play host to Boston College at 2PM ET.

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Duke is the heavy favorite today, as the Blue Devils are getting odds of -26.5 points against Boston College. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 148.5 points. Duke has won 10 straight in this series and covered the spread in the last four meetings.

Bet on Boston College vs. Duke

Duke begins a stretch of about six weeks without coach Mike Krzyzewski, who had back surgery on Friday and will be unable to coach during his recovery. The Blue Devils are coming off a 110-57 win over Georgia Tech back on Wednesday, but they lost their ACC opener to Virginia Tech, 89-75. Duke is 13-2 on the season and 7-7 against the spread this season, but the Blue Devils are just 1-3 ATS in their last four. Duke is averaging 84.7 points per game while allowing just 63.3 points per contest. Luke Kennard is leading Duke with 21 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while Amile Jefferson is adding 13.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per contest. Grayson Allen returned from his suspension on Wednesday and is averaging 15.9 points per game.

Boston College is coming off a 79-66 loss at Wake Forest on Tuesday. The Eagles are now 8-7 on the year and 6-4 against the spread. BC has covered the spread in its last three overall and in four straight as a double-digit underdog. The Eagles average 74.1 points per game on offense, but allow 72.7 points per contest this year. Jerome Robinson is leading the team with 20.6 points and 5 rebounds per game while Ky Bowman is putting up 11.9 points per contest.

Duke is clearly the better team but giving up 26.5 points in college basketball is a lot, especially against a conference opponent. The Blue Devils showed on Wednesday they are capable of winning by that margin, but not having Coach K on the sideline could be a factor. The Blue Devils haven’t exactly been playing their best basketball as of late as is. I like the Eagles to cover.
