Michigan vs. Minnesota Pick
Can Michigan remain hot when the Wolverines hit the road today to face Minnesota tonight at 7PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Minnesota is a slight favorite on the road, as the Golden Gophers are getting odds of -1 point against Michigan. The over/under total for the game is listed at 139.5 points. Michigan has won nine straight in this series, covering the spread in five of the last six wins as well.
After hovering on the NCAA Tournament bubble for most of the season, Michigan has greatly improved its stock over its last three games, beating Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin to improve to 17-9 on the season and 7-6 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines have covered in six of their last eight games as well to get to 10-13 against the spread on the season. Michigan is averaging 74.2 points per game on offense while allowing 65.2 on defense. On the road, Michigan averages just 69 points on offense while allowing 76.4 on defense. Derrick Walton Jr. is leading the team with 14.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game while Zak Irvin is adding 12.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest.
Minnesota also comes in hot, winning four straight to get to 19-7 on the season and 7-6 in the Big Ten. The Golden Gophers sit at 14-10 against the spread on the season, having covered in three of the four games during this win streak. Minnesota is averaging 75.2 points per game on offense this season while allowing 68.3 on defense. When at home, the Gophers put up 80.1 points per game offensively. While Michigan is rolling along with some nice wins, the Wolverines still won their first true road game of the season last weekend at Indiana. So clearly the Wolverines aren’t a tremendous road team. While Minnsota isn’t beating the same level of opponents in their win streak, the Gophers are at home. I like the way Michigan is playing right now, but their struggles away from Ann Arbor have me wanting them to prove they can win one more time before taking them on the road with such a small spread.
