North Carolina vs. N.C. State Pick

Will No. 10 North Carolina be able to get back to covering the spread when it goes on the road to face N.C. State tonight at 8PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, North Carolina is favored on the road, as the Tar Heels are getting odds of -11.5 points against N.C. State. The over/under total for the game is listed at 168 points. North Carolina has won three straight in this series, including a 107-56 win on Jan. 8. The Heels have also covered the spread in the last two meetings.

North Carolina is coming off an 86-76 loss at Duke last Thursday. The Tar Heels are now 21-5 on the season and 9-3 in the ACC. They have failed to cover the spread in four of their last five games and now sit at 11-12-1 against the spread. UNC is averaging 86.7 points per game on offense while allowing 72.6 on defense. On the road, UNC actually allows 79.6 points per game while scoring 78.1 on offense. Justin Jackson is averaging 18.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game to lead the team while Kennedy Meeks is adding 12.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per contest.

N.C. State has lost five straight entering this game to fall to 14-12 on the season and 3-10 in the ACC. The Wolfpack have also failed to cover in all five games and are at 9-14 against the spread on the season. N.C. State is averaging 79.9 points per game on offense while allowing 79.9 per game on defense. At home, the Wolfpack actually put up 86.2 points per game on offense while allowing 75.3 on defense. Dennis Smith Jr. is averaging 18.7 points and 6.8 assists per game to lead the team while Terry Henderson is adding 14.2 points per contest.

North Carolina has been shaky, but the Tar Heels should be able to handle things tonight. UNC has the matchup advantage, which was proven in the first meeting. The Tar Heels are the better team and N.C. State tends to win in shootouts. It can’t beat this UNC team in a shootout.
