Texas vs. Kansas Prediction
Will No. 2 Kansas get over its covering struggles when it’s a big favorite against Texas today at 2PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Kansas is the favorite at home in this game, as the Jayhawks are getting odds of -16.5 points against the Longhorns. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 148 points. Kansas has won five straight in this series while going 3-2 against the spread in the five games.
Kansas is on a 17-game winning streak to move to 17-1 on the season and 6-0 in the Big 12. The Jayhawks have struggled to cover much this season though, going 6-10 against the spread overall and just 2-5 ATS at home. Kansas puts up 85.8 points per game this season, but allows 70.4. The Jayhawks are averaging 90.8 points per game at home, but still giving up about 70 points per contest. Leader Frank Mason III is battling a knee issue, but is probable to play today. Mason averages 20.3 points and 5.3 assists per game while Josh Jackson adds 15.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest.
Texas has lost four straight coming into today to fall to 7-11 on the season and 1-5 in the Big 12. Despite the losses, the Longhorns are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games. Texas is now 10-7 ATS on the season. The Longhorns don’t have a great offense, scoring just 69.6 points per game. On the road, Texas is scoring only 61.5 points per game. Defensively, Texas is giving up 67.9 points per contest this season. Leader Tevin Mack has been suspended indefinitely. He was averaging 14.8 points per game. Jarrett Allen is now the leader with 11.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

Texas isn’t a team that can beat Kansas, but I think the Longhorns can cover today. Texas has been playing tough, as their last seven losses have been by 10 points or less. Shaka Smart still has his team playing with some pride as they go through this tough stretch. The suspension of Mack sent a message and I expect his team to play hard and do enough to cover at Kansas.
