Clemson gets by Miami

Clemson is the No. 8 seed in the ACC Tournament and the Tigers opened up their conference tournament with a 69-64 win over Miami on Wednesday. That snapped a two-game skid for the Tigers. Clemson is 16-15 on the season, 2-1 on a neutral floor, 17-14 against the spread and 16-14-1 with the over.

The Tigers are averaging just 66.4 points per game on offense this season while shooting 42.7 percent from the field. Defensively, Clemson allows only 64.1 points per game while holding opponents to just 41.2 percent shooting. Aamir Simms is leading Clemson with 13.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Tevin Mack is adding 12.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

Florida State the top seed

Florida State holds the top seed in the tournament this weekend after winning the ACC regular season title at 16-4. FSU has won six of is last seven coming into today, including an 80-62 win over Boston College last weekend. FSU is now 26-5 on the season, 3-0 on a neutral floor, 17-14 against the spread and 19-12 with the over.

The Seminoles are putting up 75.4 points per game on offense this season while shooting 45.7 percent from the field. Defensively, FSU is giving up just 65.7 points per game while holding opponents to 40.6 percent shooting. Devin Vassell is leading FSU with 12.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Trent Forrest is adding 11.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest.

College Basketball Betting Trends

Clemson

The Tigers have covered the spread in four straight Thursday games and in 10 of their last 14 games on a neutral floor.

Florida State

The Seminoles are 11-5-2 against the spread in their last 18 games on a neutral floor and 5-1 ATS in their last six games as a favorite.

Prediction:

The home team won and covered in both meetings this season, including a 70-69 win for Florida State back on Feb. 29. Given the Tigers got the latest win in the series, I think it will help Florida State be focused for the rubber match today. As the top seed, FSU could easily overlook a lesser opponent, but the Seminoles know they need to take Clemson seriously. The Tigers don’t have an offense that can keep pace with FSU if the Seminoles get rolling.

ACC Tournament Prediction: Florida State -7.5
