College Basketball Odds and Trends 2/18/16 – Wisconsin vs. Michigan State

Wisconsin vs. MSU Breakdown

No. 8 Michigan State and Wisconsin add another chapter to their rivalry tonight at 9PM ET on ESPN. Here’s a breakdown of this Big Ten matchup.

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Michigan State is the favorite at home, as the Spartans are getting odds of -9.5 points. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 135 points.

Michigan State is currently eighth in the rankings and 21-5 on the season, but the Spartans are just 8-5 in the Big Ten. One of their five losses came at Wisconsin, back on Jan. 17 by a 77-76 score. The Spartans were without star Denzel Valentine in that game and were in the midst of a rare three-game losing streak. The Spartans have won five of their last six, covering the spread in all six, and seem to have found their stride in time for March once again.

Wisconsin (16-9, 8-4 Big Ten) is one of the hottest teams in the country, winning seven straight, including a 70-57 win at Maryland this past weekend. The Badgers have covered in all seven wins, which began with the victory over the Spartans. Wisconsin has been the underdog in four of the seven wins as well. The Badgers have also won and covered in two straight over the Spartans, which makes today’s spread somewhat surprising given they are playing so well. Ten points is a lot for a team to give up, especially to a team as hot as Wisconsin. However, Michigan State is 12-5 ATS in its last 17 home games.
