(The Spread) – Only two games are on the top-25 college basketball schedule Monday, but one of them involves two Big East teams in No. 23 Louisville and No. 21 Georgetown that are both coming off impressive road victories. Two road underdogs in Louisville (17-4) and Georgetown (16-5) both were on the winning end of its games Saturday afternoon as the Cardlinal downed Connecticut 79-78 in double overtime, while the Hoyas downed Villanova 69-66.
On Monday, the two squads collide at 7:00PM EST on ESPN. Oddsmakers and online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Georgetown 5-point favorites in Monday’s game. According to the latest trends, Georgetown is 1-1 against the spread versus Louisville over the past three seasons.
After losing three games in a row from Jan. 3 through Jan. 12, Georgetown has since turned things for the better as the victory over Villanova was its fourth straight. Louisville has won four of five and two straight with wins over West Virginia and Connecticut.
Cardinals sophomore guard Peyton Siva (11.1 ppg) has been a hero in the last two wins as he hit a game-winning shot in the closing seconds against West Virginia, then hit 3-pointers in the last minute of regulation and the first overtime to keep Louisville alive versus Connecticut.
Georgetown guard Austin Freeman (18.8 ppg), the preseason Big East Player of the Year, came up huge Saturday as his 30 points torched Villanova. Freeman has scored at least 25 points in three of the four Hoyas wins during the streak.
The only other top-25 matchup Monday involves red-hot No. 7 Texas (18-3) and No. 13 in-state rival Texas A & M at 9:00PM EST. Texas, winners of six in a row, is a 1.5-point favorite.
