Purdue vs. Marquette Pick
Can No. 19 Purdue go on the road and cover in the tough challenge of facing Marquette tonight at 8:30PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Purdue is favored on the road, as the Boilermakers are getting odds of -4.5 points against Marquette. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 159.5 points. Tonight’s game takes place from the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The contest airs live on FS1.
Purdue is off to a 2-0 start overall and a 1-0 start against the spread thanks to a 105-74 win over Southern Illinois and a 111-42 win over Chicago State. Carsen Edwards is averaging 20.5 points per game to lead the team thus far while Dakota Mathis is adding 18 points and 4.5 assists per contest. Vince Edwards is chipping in with 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Purdue was 19-11-2 against the spread last season, but just 3-6-1 ATS on the road.
Marquette is off to a 1-0 start thanks to an 80-59 win over Mount Saint Mary’s this past weekend. The Golden Eagles shot 50 percent in the win and had 10 steals as a team. Andrew Rowsey had 23 points with five assists and three steals to lead the team. Both Matt Heldt and Haanif Cheatham scored 13 points. Marquette was 16-16 against the spread last season and 10-7 ATS at home.
These two have no meetings to consider. Purdue has a lot of optimism and the Boilermakers have been rolling so far, but those are against weak opponents. Purdue lost some big pieces from the 2016-17 roster and its unclear how they will be able to replace that production. Marquette shot the ball well against Mount St. Mary’s, but I don’t think the Eagles can count on outscoring the Boilermakers tonight. The public betting is behind Purdue tonight and I agree with them on this one.
