Colorado Game Notes
Sophomore guard K.J. Simpson leads Colorado in scoring through two games in 2022. The 6’2” native of West Hills, CA is averaging 15 points per game on the young season. Simpson led all Colorado scorers with 16 points in the Buffaloes’ 83-74 loss to Grambling on Saturday night. Simpson only averaged 7.4 points per game last year, but he has seemingly taken on a bigger role in Colorado’s offense this season.
In the frontcourt, Colorado is led by junior forward Tristan Da Silva. Da Silva is the Buffaloes’ returning leading scorer as he averaged 9.4 points per game last season while shooting 47.9% from the field. Tristan Da Silva struggled in Colorado’s loss to Grambling, only scoring 4 points in 37 minutes on 1-6 shooting. He’ll need to step up if Colorado is going to cover the number on Sunday.
Tennessee Game Notes
In Tennessee’s 75-43 blowout win over Tennessee Tech, their leading scorer was 6’2” senior guard Tyreke Key. Key is from Celina, Tennessee, but played the first four years of his college basketball career at Indiana State. He poured in 17 points in 24 minutes off the bench to propel Tennessee to the victory on Monday. Tennessee has good backcourt depth, as they bring back a pair of guards who both averaged around 8 points per game.
Senior guard Josiah-Jordan James led Tennessee in rebounding last season, collecting 6.5 boards per game. The 6’6” senior got 18 minutes off the bench in Tennessee’s win over Tennessee Tech, and James scored 8 points on 3 of 6 shooting. Last year’s leading assist man for Tennessee is back as well. Santiago Vescovi averaged 3.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game last year for the Vols in 29.2 minutes per game. Vescovi started for Tennessee and posted a complete stat line of 9 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals as he played 30 minutes in Tennessee’s opening-night win. Tennessee’s guards will have to perform exceptionally if they’re going to cover the number against Colorado on Sunday.

Colorado vs. Tennessee CBB Prediction:
This game will be Colorado’s third since Monday of this past week and second game in less than 48 hours. The Buffaloes got dominated by Grambling on Friday night, allowing the Tigers to shoot 50% from the field. Grambling never trailed in that contest and led by as much as 20 points before ultimately winning by 9. This game against Tennessee is technically a neutral site clash for Colorado, but it’s in Nashville so the crowd will be heavily skewed towards Tennessee. The Volunteers are 46-17 since the beginning of the 2020-21 season and they’re in a prime spot to win convincingly here. I’ll lay the points with Tennessee.
