Blue Demons upset Musketeers
DePaul earned a 71-67 victory Tuesday night over Xavier in the first round of the Big East Tournament to improve to 16-16 on the season. The Blue Demons led 38-34 at halftime on their way tot he win. Paul Reed led DePaul with 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting plus 5-of-7 at the free throw line. He also ripped down 12 rebounds. Charlie Moore accounted for 18 points, nine assists and two boards. Jaylen Butz added 11 points and six caroms.
Wildcats earn share of Big East crown
Villanova secured a piece of a three-way tie for first-place in the Big East Conference standings as it downed host Georgetown 70-69 Saturday in its regular season finale. The Wildcats (24-7, 13-5) led 39-30 at halftime before holding off a rally by the Hoyas. Saddiq Bey paced Villanova with 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting including 3-of-5 from 3-point distance plus 5-of-7 at the charity stripe. He also pulled down three rebounds. Jermaine Samuels accounted for 13 points, four assists and two boards. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl accounted for 13 points, seven caroms, two assists and two steals. Justin Moore had 11 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots. Collin Gillespie added 11 points, five dimes and four boards.

DePaul gained some needed confidence from Tuesday’s win and I like its chances to keep it close today against a Villanova squad that sometimes plays down to its competition. Go with the Blue Demons to generate another positive performance.
