Duke Game Notes
Duke’s best player is freshman center Kyle Filipowski. The 7’0” Westtown, NY native is leading the Blue Devils in scoring (15.2 points per game), rebounding (8.9 rebounds per game), and steals (1.2 steals per game). He’s averaging 19.5 points per game in the ACC Tournament and will likely need to score in double figures if Duke is going to win on Saturday.
Duke guard Tyrese Proctor has scored at least 10 points in 6 straight games for the Blue Devils. He’s given Duke a dynamic perimeter scoring presence that they lacked earlier in the season and could play a key role this Saturday.
Virginia Game Notes
Virginia forward Ben Vander Plas broke his right hand last week and will miss the rest of the season. Vander Plas had been averaging 7.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in 24.8 minutes per contest for the Cavaliers this season.
The Cavaliers’ most important player is senior forward Jayden Gardner. The 6’6” East Carolina transfer is second on the club in scoring with 11.9 points per game and leads the team in rebounding with 5.6 boards per game. He was instrumental in Virginia’s semifinal win over Clemson on Friday night, pouring in 23 points on 10-15 shooting from the field. Virginia will need him to show up if they’re going to take home the ACC Tournament trophy on Saturday.

Duke vs. Virginia CBB Prediction:
Duke seems to be peaking at the right time. The Blue Devils have won 8 games in a row on their way to the ACC Tournament final. Duke’s younger players have settled into their roles and the veteran players have guided the way through the gauntlet that is the ACC Tournament. There’s also the fact that this game is being played in Greensboro, North Carolina. Greensboro is a 54-minute drive from Duke’s campus in Durham, NC. The Blue Devils lost at Virginia a month ago in overtime 69-62 but I think they get their revenge here and take home the ACC Tournament title.
