Monmouth to mob George Washington?
Vastly different approaches should make for an entertaining tussle between Monmouth and George Washington when the NIT resumes tonight at 7 p.m. ET.
According to online sports book BetDSI, the top-seeded Hawks are 2.5-point favorites in their home building. The over/under total rests at 152.
In its first test since getting overlooked by the NCAA tournament committee, Monmouth (28-7) blew past Bucknell. Justin Robinson scored 23 points in last Wednesday’s 90-80 victory, with Colin Stewart adding 16 and Deon Jones 12. All told, the contest captured the Hawks’ essence: a guard-heavy assault that leaves opponents gasping for air.
The Colonials (24-10) prefer to work the ball down low and bleed out the shot clock. Tyler Cavanaugh and Kevin Larsen often lead the charge, but Alex Mitolo actually drained the game-winner to eliminate Hofstra in the opening round.

This evening’s raucous environment in New Jersey could preclude GW from establishing its normal rhythm in the halfcourt. If so, Mike Lonergan’s team doesn’t possess the horses to play catch-up. The objective must be to take the air out of the rock as much as possible.
Monmouth’s greyhounds will obviously bring other intentions. Having already raced past Notre Dame, Georgetown and USC this year, the MAAC regular-season champs welcome the Atlantic 10’s best shot, too.
